Today we're celebrating nurses everywhere! It's 'International Day of the Nurse', a significant occasion this year given the current global COVID-19 pandemic and also as 2020 has been marked by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the 'Year of the Nurse and Midwife'.

Nurses account for more than half of all the world’s health workers and play a vital role in health for all as their work contributes to health promotion, disease prevention, treatment and care. In some communities, nurses are often the first and sometimes the only health professional that people see.
To nurses all around Australia, we thank you for everything you do and the contribution you make to help keep communities safe and healthy!

It's important to remember why we should be staying home this Easter and forgoing the usual plans we would normally make to travel over a long weekend.

COVID-19 still poses a significant risk to many vulnerable people and the chances of community transmission are still high. Additionally, our healthcare workers still need our support to flatten the curve.
Stay hyper-local this long weekend and relax at home.

Stores like supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and convenience stores remain open and in addition, logistics, freight and home delivery services are still operating to keep supply chains moving.
More than ever, we need to look after our senior citizens and other vulnerable people in the community - please be thoughtful when you head out to shop.

With the news that the Australian Government has banned all non-essential indoor events of more than 100 people (and outdoor events of up to 500 people), it's worth thinking about other events in your calendar that don't fall under this criteria.

If you have smaller personal or business events lined up in your diary, consider whether your attendance is necessary and/or if they can be postponed or rescheduled for a few months time.

The act of social distancing has become key to containing and slowing the spread of the Corona virus among the community. While there are many measures we can take, it is sometimes unavoidable to be where others are and in these instances it is best to be a minimum of 1.5 metres apart where possible. For more information on social distancing, download the Australian Government's fact sheet. We'll leave the link in comments below. #coronavirus #covid19 #covid19AUS
