Today we're celebrating nurses everywhere! It's 'International Day of the Nurse', a significant occasion this year given the current global COVID-19 pandemic and also as 2020 has been marked by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the 'Year of the Nurse and Midwife'.

Nurses account for more than half of all the world’s health workers and play a vital role in health for all as their work contributes to health promotion, disease prevention, treatment and care. In some communities, nurses are often the first and sometimes the only health professional that people see.

Panic buying and hoarding are unnecessary and cause needless stress, anxiety and inconvenience to elderly and vulnerable people.

Stores like supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and convenience stores remain open and in addition, logistics, freight and home delivery services are still operating to keep supply chains moving.

More than ever, we need to look after our senior citizens and other vulnerable people in the community - please be thoughtful when you head out to shop.

With the news that the Australian Government has banned all non-essential indoor events of more than 100 people (and outdoor events of up to 500 people), it's worth thinking about other events in your calendar that don't fall under this criteria.
